USEPA to Reconsider the 2008 National Smog Standards
The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) set National smog standards in 2008, which were used to set primary and secondary air quality standards. Smog, or ground level ozone, has been linked to respiratory illnesses including asthma. A review of the studies and public comments that guided these standards will be conducted to ensure that human health and the environment are being appropriately protected.
USEPA will propose revisions to the ozone standards by December 2009, and will issue a final decision by August 2010.
